Oil Heat vs. Natural Gas
An old oil heat system is no different than any other outdated system, regardless of the fuel used. Old systems can generate high fuel bills, but they can easily be replaced with new oil heat technology.
That's a more cost-friendly option than converting to natural gas. The added costs of conversion to natural gas make it almost certain that homeowners will have a difficult time getting a return on their investment. Plus, you'll most likely pay more to heat your home every year because natural gas generally costs more than oil.
According to the Consumer Energy Council of America, over the past 20 years, oil and natural gas prices have tracked each other over time.
In the long run, CECA predicts the trend of price parity will continue. That means deciding to switch fuels is an expensive gamble, and not one that CECA recommends.
